Samantha Marie Salzberg was born April 3, 1987.
Several hours after delivery a nurse noticed her lips had turned blue.  She was diagnosed with a heart defect.

in 1987 Morristown Memorial Hospital did not have the facilities required to properly care for Sam.  She was transferred 12 hours after birth to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

Once removed from the sterile environment of the NICU
she developed an infection during the transfer process that
ultimately destroyed her immune system.

Sam lost her battle after eight long weeks.

Over the last twenty years Morristown Medical Center has come a very long way.  Today MMC is a premier provider of neonatal intensive care throughout the tri-state area
